Annual Corn Boil celebrates start of fall sports


The annual Batavia Corn Boil will be conducted from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at Batavia High School, 1201 W. Main St., Batavia. The event includes hot dogs, brats, corn, chips and drinks, and celebrates the start of the fall sports season. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for students and $4 for ages 65 and older. Family tickets are available for $25 for four guests and $5 for each additional guest. The event also will include entertainment by the BHS marching band, the cheer teams and the dance teams. Museum to present annual Heirloom Garden Show
Garfield Farm Museum will present its 24th annual Heirloom Garden Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The show will include exhibitors showing a variety of heirloom flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables. Some plants and garden seeds will be available for purchase. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 13 and younger. The museum is located on Garfield Road in Campton Hills, about three miles west of Randall Road and north of Route 38. Scrapbook Expo begins Aug. 23 at Pheasant Run Resort
Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, will host a scrap-booking expo featuring manufacturers, vendors, demonstrations and workshops on Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24. Kaneville Public Library plans book sale
The Kaneville Public Library, 2S101 Harter Road, Kaneville, will host its annual book sale Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24. The sale is one of the activities planned for the annual Kaneville Fest weekend. The sale will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24. The sale will include hardback and paperback books, CDs, audio books and other items. A preview sale with a $5 admission fee will be conducted from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2. Gibby’s sets Farm to Table Dinner
Our friends at Gibby’s Wine Den in Geneva will host a Farm to Table Dinner, featuring locally produced foods, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. The event will include food and wine pairings. Chef Brandy Fernow will prepare the food and provide advice for presenting similar meals at home. Tickets to the event are $70. For more information about the dinner, call 630-208-6424. Trivia Night to benefit TriCity Family Services
The popular TriCity Family Services Trivia Night returns Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Batavia Moose Lodge, 1535 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. The event will include a social hour at 6 p.m. The trivia competition will begin at 7 p.m. and will include teams of up to 10 members. Each team will have its own table to decorate. The Batavia Moose will offer a cash bar. Teams are encouraged to bring their own food, but outside alcohol is not permitted. The event will include a 50/50 raffle. Knights Wrestling Club to host pancake breakfast
I always enjoy a pancake breakfast, and I’m always pleased to help promote them, particularly when the breakfast benefits a local organization. The Knights Wrestling Club will host a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Washington Park pavilion in Maple Park. Tickets are $6 per person or $18 per family. The park is located on Washington Street, one block east of County Line Road. For more information about the breakfast, call 815-216-6007.
